Christmas gift of the year: LC-MS/MS!

It is busy days in the laboratory. We have just added a new instrument, a liquid chromatograph connected to a dual-stage mass spectrometer (LC-MS/MS) that will supplement our current HPLC.

This new instrument will give us the possibility to analyse the more polar range of organic substances in low concentrations and in complicated samples. It is a flexible system with ESI-source for charged analytes as well as an APCI-source for polar but neutral substances. The practical benefit of MS/MS is a very high selectivity for analytes and as a consequence very low concentrations of the substances of concern can be quantified. Installation of the instrument is in progress and we would like to thank Santa for this very nice christmas gift!
