New article about sulphide in bentonite clay!

2017-08-14
In a new article written by Micans, we describe how sulphide is immobilised in bentonite clay, which may be important in the safety analysis for geological repositories for radioactive waste.

Sulphide which is corrosive to metals is produced when sulphate-reducing bacteria transform sulphate into sulphide as part of their natural metabolism. This process is carefully studied in the safety analysis for future disposal of radioactive waste, as it is planned in many concepts to store the waste in metal canisters surrounded by bentonite clay. In this new article, Micans has studied how sulphide moves through bentonite clay. The article was published in the journal Applied Clay Science and is available on-line here.
